IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF BUDDHA

WALKING IN THE FOOTSTEPS of Buddha, is not an easy itinerary.  It takes you to where the Buddha was born, where he attained enlightenment, where he gave his first sermon – it is a journey of discovery.

Travel to Bodhgaya, where Siddharta Gautama meditated until he was enlightened by the meaning of life and became a Buddha.  Today it is a town of temples and monasteries from all the major Buddhist areas of the world; one of the most important places for Buddhists to meditate.

Sarnath, where after attaining enlightenment, the Buddha gave his first sermon; Nalanda, the famous Buddhist University attended by studentsfrom all over the east between the 5th to the 12th century AD; Kushinagar, turned into a memorial site by devout Buddhist kings of yesteryear, where tathagata, the reciter to truth, breathed his last.

Drive to the forests of Lumbini where recent archaeological excavation has revealed ruins of the old Royal Palace where Prince Gautama was born.  Visit Kapilavastu where he spent the first 29 years of his life and Sravasti, where according to legend, the Buddha confounded his critics by making them witness and a miraculous million-fold self manifestation.

Accommodation is basic, the roads are bumpy, but the journey can be a revelation.
