Scattered across the equator in the middle of the Indian Ocean, about 500 km. From the southern tips of Sri Lanka and India, the Maldives is an exotic tropical island paradise - 1,190 palm-fringed coral islands with sparkling white beaches, spread over 90,000sq. Km. The warm, turquoise wagters of the shallow, crystal-clear lagoons are enclosed by coral reefs teeming with amazing varieties of marine flora and fauna. It is a fascinating destination, particularly for scuba divers.

Male is the busiest and most populous island in the archipelogo, home to over 75,000 people, a third of the country’s total population.  As the capital of the country, it is the commercial centre, seat of government and the location of many important historical and religious landmarks.  The city is dominated by the golden dome of the Grand Friday Mosque. The fruit and vegetable market and the firewood market where islanders from outer atolls gagther to trade are busy, colourful places that allow a glimpse into the life of the people.
