ESSENTIAL NEPAL

THE KINGDOM OF NEPAL, with ancient monasteries and temples, lies in the foothills of the mighty Himalaya, at the borders of India and China (Tibet). Its simple hill folk practice Hinduism and Buddhism. The beautiful terrain provides ample opportunity for trekking, river rafting. Bird watching and wildlife safaris or if you prefer, you could relax and just take in the fresh mountain air, In the tour that follows, we have tried to cover a bit af all. The choice of locations covers much of this fascinating land, and the accommodation is the best available.

The focus at Kathmandu is the Durbar Square with its ancient royal palace, official residence of the King of Nepal.  The many temples include the house of the Kumari, the living goddess. The three holy sites include the 2,500-year-old Buddhist shrine of Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, a Hindu temple complex and the great stupa of Boudhanath.

Outside the capital,l Dhulikhel is an old Newari twon with impressive old buildings. Chitwan is the famed wildlife sanctuary where you can see the endangered one-horned rhinoceros and the Royal Bengal Tiger, as well as a large number of other wildlife. Pokhara, lying in an idyllic valley is the launching point for mountain treks, and Nagarkot provides pleasant accommodation for foot-wary outdoor enthusiasts.
