ESSENTIAL SRI LANKA

Sri Lanka, a verdant paradise whose shores are washed by the sinuous waters of the Indian Ocean.  Where exuberant tropical forests clothe the slopes of the mountains that raise their heads to the clouds in the interior.  Whose history of trade and diverse cultural influences from across the seven seas have given rise to a wonderful vibrancy that permeates every aspect of life. This short introductory tour to Sri Lanka includes all that is essential, sites and places you just can’t miss. From Colombo, the dynamic capital city and commercial centre to Buddhist viharas, Hindu temples and ancient fortifications. Visit the elephant orphanage at Pinnawela to watch over 65 of these gentle pachyderms cavort in the river at bathing time; climb the ‘Fortress in the Sky’ at Sigiriya to admire the ruins of the Royal Palace on the summit.  Stop at Kandy, the home of the ‘DaladaMaligawa’. Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, one of the most sacred sites for Buddhists the world over.

Accommodation is in the best hotels with interesting local styles and modern comforts; distances are reasonable and the drive easy.  In short, it has all the makings of a great holiday.
