TRIBAL TOUR OF ORISSA  ( 20 Nights )

THE STATE OF ORISSA on the eastern coast of India has a vast tribal population of diverse race and culture. The majority of these live in the forest and hilly regions of state, in closed isolated units that are marked by a strong cultural identity.  Many of these tribes still follow the simple age-old lifestyles of their ancestors- living off the land, dependent on the forest for all their needs. The bustling weekly markets to which they bring forest and craft produce are fascinating in the varied interaction and  situations they reveal.

This itinerary, an exhaustive tour of this region, is not really for the first time visitor to the country.  Accommodation is basic; the drives are long and go into the interior of the country.  But there are rewards in terms of sights not often seen by a tourist.  Kolkata and Delhi and the temples at Puri and Konark reveal different secrets each time they are visited. Chilka, the largest brackish lake in Asia, supports a range of aquatic life including dolphins and is one of the most important wetlands in the world.
